orkid's cafe: your tapai pulut feeling

"I heard about the tapai ice-cream kat wedding arituh. You lupa ye you cerita kat I? You wanted a better one," he sounded concerned.

"Arief...I lupa..." I was confused with myself. My head couldn't think properly.
"You check e-mail kerja kat rumah. Time MC. Baguslah sayang....lain kali sila buat lagi," and that was the first time I heard his stern voice.
"You marah..."
"I know that your work is your number one love, okay...I marah nanti jadi cinta terlarang pulak," he said softly.

I smiled weakly at my phone.

"You pernah dengar pasal cinta tapai pulut?" he asked.
"Tak," I answered.
"Cinta yang diperam. Makin peram, makin manis. Tapi, salah peram rosak semuanya..." he explained.
"You dah pandai berfalsafah dan guna ayat novel," I noted.
"Tried to explain something in our words, the food lovers. If you don't mind, since you're craving for tapai pulut, I bagi you yang diperam sampai manis tu. Nak?" he offered.
"You ada niat nak bagi yang rosak ke?"

Then he laughed.

"You memang demam teruk nieh, Sha. Kalau you tak demam, surely you could understand metaphors!" he chuckled.
"Or I'm simply missing you, " I was talking to myself.
"Apa dia, sayang?"
"You dengar ke apa I cakap tadi?" Err..please, don't let him know about that!
"Tak..."

"I nak tido. Lain kali you call ye?"
"Okay. Take care. Makan ubat."
"Thanks."

"I miss you too, Sha...." there was a smile in his voice.

And I wanted to faint....adoi!

orkid's cafe: bubur nasi emak saya

Dear ibu,

Sometimes, when you love the person so much, you just don't know what to say. Regardless how talkative you are, you just can't express things that you feel.

And that is how I feel right now. I am sick and I'm craving for rice porridge that you cooked for me when I was little. I have to admit that it was a bit plain and common for some people. Some people said we were eating inferior goods from Japanese era. But what they didn't know was that the porridge was served with sincerity, love and of course, your prayers.

So that made it so special. Even dating a chef won't compensate the taste of your touch;)

We learned something today. Together.

Someone said, "The feeling of being rich. A feeling that you'll never know."

"Of course. I am doing something good today. And that makes me rich. A feeling that you'll never know, " our favourite character in CSI:NY, Mac Taylor reminded us of our principles, ibu.

Happy birthday to the best teacher in the world, the greatest mother for me in life and thereafter, and the bravest woman I've ever met (except for driving, of course. Hehe).

My idol. My strength. My inspiration,
I can't wait for my N*** 2707 to park in front of the house today. That new Suzuki Swift is for you. Jom!

orkid's cafe: balthazar blake's blue nasi kerabu

"Tak macam orang demam pun?" he asked.

"Memang tak demam...batuk dengan selsema jelah," I replied. My runny nose and my itchy throat were showing its proof. But I could understand why he said that. I was controlling the itchiness well.

Why?
Sha control ayu. As simple as that:)

Then I coughed. He chuckled.

"Batuk jelah. I tak kisah. But are you sure you want to watch the movie?" he asked nicely. I nodded. A plan was still a plan.

"Nak pop corn?" he asked when we reached the hallway to the cinema theaters, I shook my head. In normal circumstances, I would want to eat those nice stuff. In this itchy throat situation, honewever, none of my favourite food tasted nice.

Oh, that was a lie. I loved the nice nasi kerabu for breakfast I ate in Ampang this morning;)

He gave me an understanding smile. Then he said, "Tak pernah terfikir nak dok Ampang ke? Boleh makan nasi kerabu best hari-hari."

"Kat Ampang je ada nasi kerabu best? Kat Bangi lagi best laaaa..." I protested.
"Then apasal tak dok Bangi?" he teased.
"Sebab kat Seremban pun ada nasi kerabu. Best jugak," I said.

"Apa je yang ada kat Seremban tu tak best untuk you," he teased me more. I looked at him sharply. He laughed while we sat down in the dark cinema.

Two hour plus of watching Sorcerer's Apprentice. Suddenly he whispered,
"Tell me what you want to hear
Something that'll like those ears
Sick of all the act sincere
So I'm gonna give all my secrets away..."

I grinned. He smiled. Apparently we liked the same thing in the movie: the soundtrack.

"Macam One Republic?" I asked him. He nodded.
"You knew this song?" he nodded again. Well, how do you expect us to communicate during a movie show right? Whispering was not just sexy, it was a must.

Nicholas Cage was a macho man.His hair in Sorcerer's Apprentice reminded me of Con Air. I gaped when I looked at him. The magic was still there. He was still one of my favourite actors.

"Ish...ish...tutup sikit mulut tu, Cik Sha, Kang masuk lalat," he whispered again.

I blushed.

Then he asked, "Kalau I buat rambut macam Balthazar, amacam?"
I gave him a disgusted look.
"Buruk?"
"Buruk," I said simply. He grinned.
"Then, kenapa bila Balthazar buat macam tu you nganga?"
"Mana ada I nganga...." I protested. He was such a tease.
"Jealous macam ni," he said.
"Jealouslah," I challenge him.
"Betul tak kisah?"
"Kenapa nak kisah?"

Then we were both silent.

Few minutes later, I felt the vibration of my phone. 1 message received.

"I need another story
Something to get off my chest
My life gets kind of boring
Need something that i can confess..."

It was from him.

I replied, "Confess lah." Send.

Vibration. Again. 1 message received.

"Will you be my Veronica?"

Danggg....there I was. Looking at the Veronica's kissing scene. By the way, you might want to know who was Veronica right? Well, please watch Sorcerer's Apprentice. You'll understand Arief's question. Trust me;)

orkid's cafe: assam laksa belacan busuk

Originally uploaded by borninnovember
I looked around me and I saw him.

"Kasut merah?" he asked. I nodded.
"Banyak ke baju merah you?"
"Bolehlah. But this one is only for occasions, " I explained.
"I see..." he smiled. G...that smile could kill me!

I looked at him and noticed the maroon stripes on his shirt. The stone on his ring is red too. Darn....ring?!!!

But that didn't look like an engagement ring, or wedding ring. It looked like...

"My dad bought this ring," he casually explained as if he knew what was in my mind.

I blushed.

"I'm not married, Sha, " he continued. Dang...was there anything that he didn't know? He could read my mind really...really well.

"I lapar..." I tried to change the topic.
"Nak makan nasi?" I shook my head.
"Habis?"
"I tak tau you suka ke tak..." I said slowly.
"Try me."
"Laksa?"
"Assam?"
"Yes."
"Tak...I tak suka. Boleh makan, but not my favourite," the answer was straightforward.
"Okay....kita pergi tempat lain lah?" I suggested.
"Takpelah...kita pergi tempat you tu..."
"Tapi...laksa assam bukan semua orang lelaki suka."
"That's right."
"Macam women's delicacy kan? You tak suka, tak payahlah."
"Tak suka tak semestinya tak boleh makan langsung."
"Tapi carilah tempat yang both of us suka, then..."
"Apasal?"
"The last time I lalu situ, my male office mate tutup hidung. Dia tak tahan bau belacan busuk tu."

He laughed at my confused face.

"Wait..wait...situ ada laksa kari kan?" he asked. I nodded.

He gave me that killer smile then said, "Curry laksa for me and Assam Laksa for you. Settle?"
"You tak kisah?"
"Compromise sikitlah. Curry Laksa is my favourite," he gave me a matter-of-fact.
"But we have too much of compromising today then. You're about to accompany me for shopping, " I objected.

He barked a laugh.

"You worry too much..." he said.
"Just uncomfortable..."
"But you noticed that I like red..." he teased me.
"Mmmmm...yes..." I smiled shyly.
"And you're finding for red shoes..."
"Yuuuuppp...."
"Who do you think the best company for you? The person must have great eyes for red stuff."

He knew how to do it. How to make me quiet, blush, and agreeable.

I stepped out of his black car. Then I noticed that the tissue box was red.

I smiled. My face was red as he stared down at me with his devilish smile.

"It's alright. I tak patut kacau you. I pun busy, sebenarnya," he explained.
"Reception tu macam mana?"
"Bolehlah. Semua dah hidang pun. Tengah tengok orang makan," he said.
"Mmm...we'll talk later?" I suggested.
"Sure. Tapi you faham kan...benda-benda macam ni habis lambat," he said apologetically.
"It's alright...I faham. Your work."
"Thanks..."
"You're welcome."
"Bye, Cekodok."
"Bye, Muffin..."

Then I concentrated on the game. Negri Sembilan vs. Perak for the next 90 minutes. My feminine side was gone. I went back around 11pm and my phone remained silent. "He is busy," I told myself. For some reason I was feeling more occupied when he was around. It was as if something telling me there was a strange feeling inside me when he was not with me. Did I miss him? Hmm...show some ego, Sha. You just got to know this guy.

I watched this movie called First Daughter in TV3 but my mind drifted to things which happened on the day we went for Nasi Arab on Thursday.

"Kambing?" he grinned. I nodded.
"Kambing dua," he told the waitress.

Then we ordered two mango lassies and a pot of mint tea.

"I lapar. You lapar?" he asked.
I grinned. He got the answer.

We chose the right place. The service was quick. I saw him washed his hand before he dug his fingers into the warm rice. He looked so nice with his shirt folded at the cuffs. The hair on his arms showed the masculinity. Shhh....Sha!!! Don't show your interest too much.

"You memang lapar, " I noted.
He smiled.

We didn't talk because we were too hungry. After washing our hands and helped ourselves with the mint tea, he started to ask:

"You suka purple?"
"Yup...how do you know? Oohh...I'm not supposed to ask you," I said sarcastically. I was annoyed with the fact that he knew about my blog. Actually, I felt embarrassed. How much did he know?
"You marah ni. Laaa...jangan marah sangat. I don't know everything. It was so happened that my sister was the one who read your blog," he smiled.

"What?"
"I mana ada masa, Sha. And I was not into blogging. My sister is a blogger. She told me she stumbled into your blog. And she FORCED me to read it," he gave me a matter of fact.
I remained silent.
"Tak percaya? Maybe you should meet her. She'll be thrilled," he smiled.
"Why?"
"Talk about liberations, dear. You're her icon."
"Hell. No," I laughed nervously.
"You became a barista when you left your job, travelling across states to work - even at night. My baby sister loved the stuff that you were doing, " the corner of his mouth formed a smile.
"And you loved purple and football. A perfect figure for a sister in-law," he continued. For next fifteen minutes, I got to know that his sister was an architecture student in Australia, her favourite colour is purple and she loved Liverpool F.C. From the looks in his eyes, I could see the fondness and the gentility he felt towards her.

I blushed. He gazed into my eyes and I was speechless.

Then I heard a ringtone. Flashback was over.

"Hello, Cekodok," I heard his voice on the other line.
"Hello, Muffin..." I replied sleepily.

"How's your day?"
"I terasa nak makan nasi goreng kampung, tapi dah tak selera. Banyak kerja hari ni. Jealous, sebab you dapat tengok bola. The wedding was nice. Mak pengantin tak boleh stop menangis. And...Ina was telling me about me. She told me you wrote things in your blog about a man named Arief." I could here a laughter in his voice.

"Ina tau?"
"Tak, kita secret dulu?"
"Okay," I replied.

"Best game tadi?" he asked.
"Mmmmm...ada sorang player Perak tuh muffin dia tonggek."
He laughed throatily.

"You suka?"
"Siapa?"
"Tuh..."
"Tak suka. Dia tak best."
"Apasal?"
"Semua orang gelakkan dia. Orang panggil dia lentik!Dia pakai seluar putih, lepas tu ketat. Then dia rajin menonggek..."
He laughed again.

"Muffin siapa best?" he asked softly.
"Hah?!"
"I ke dia?"
"Errr...tak nak cakap!"
"You like me...kan?"
"Arief..."
"Muffin misses you today, Cekodok..." that was the nicest tone a man has ever used to me. Mmmmhmmm...

My feeling? Like the runny egg yolk I had with the Nasi Goreng Kampung I had just now!

orkid's cafe: tajine tambah sayang satu!

Tajine
Originally uploaded by Boris van Hoytema

"Your favourite, right?" He asked me the moment he heard the guitar intro. I nodded happily. Blurry from Puddle of Mudd has been my favourite song since my adolescent years. I like the music arrangment, the lyrics and the voice of the vocalist. Some said he wanted to be the next Kurt Cobain. I just don't care.

I wanted to sing the song. Really. But I didn't want to sing in front of him. So, I just sang in my heart.

He, on the other hand, didn't know how not to sing in front of me. He increased the volume and started to sing along. I was okay with that. His voice was not superb but it wasn't that bad either. The rain won't fall. Hehehe.

Suddenly...he glanced at me...

"You could be my someone
You could be my scene
You know that I'll protect you
From all of the obscene
I wonder what your doing?
Imagine where you are?
There's oceans in between us
But that's not very far..."

He smiled when I looked at him. Then the song finished.

"How was it?" he asked.
"Apa?"
"I just sang for you. Nice or not?" he grinned.
"Really? I thought you memang bukan suka nyanyi ke?"

He smiled silently.

Next song...

"Andai kau tahu
Apa yang ku mahu
Mahukan dirimu ‘tuk mendekatiku
Dan aku tak bisa memaksa dirimu
Walau dalam tidur
Ku kan menantimu hingga akhir nanti..."

He sang the chorus. The he asked,

"You like this song too?"
"Hmmm..."
"Me too!"
"Lagu Melayu?"
"Apa salahnya? Lagipun I dulu minat Sofea Jane. Masa budak-budaklah..." he opened up.
"Me too!"
"Perempuan pun suka Sofea Jane? I suka dia dulu sebab dia lawa je...hehehe..."
"Mana ada lelaki suka perempuan tak lawa..." I said defensively.
"Adalah."
"Tapi rupa itu perlu."
"Kalau bini lawa tapi tak reti jaga nama you buat apa..." he said.
"Tapi kalau dapat macam Sofea Jane?"
"Tengoklah, kalau satu I cakap, sepuluh dia tak paham, buat apa?"
"Tapi dia cantik..."

"Dan aku tak bisaaaaa memaksa dirimu..."

He cut off with the chorus. I got it. He wanted me to stop talking about it.

Justin Bieber. Dang. As much as I tried to figure out how much to avoid Bibir boy, I like this song. And I always sing the song. But I don't want him to know...he will laugh. Shoot.

"You know you love me, I know you care
Just shout whenever, And I'll be there
You are my love, You are my heart
And we will never ever-ever be apart"

I laughed. He was the one who started singing. Then he glanced at me again.

"Are we an item. Girl quit playing
"We're just friends"
What are you sayin?"

Our gaze met.

I felt the warmth crept on my cheeks.
He smiled softly while focusing on the road.

When we reached the place, he said,

"Time for Q&A."

Hand brake up.

Now...where do I start?
What will you ask him if you're at my place?

How about...
"Thanks for bringing me to Nasi Arab. How about some Tajine next time? I know it's in Morocco...but can you bring me there?"

orkid's cafe: nasi arab kuat nafsu

"Muffin?!" I nearly jumped with surprise. He was there at the lobby. And...he was waiting for me. Yeay!

"Hai Cekodok..." he greeted with a grin. We called each other Muffin and Cekodok ever since he said he noticed that I was checking out his muffin during my cousin's wedding. I preferred not to be called Apam. Cekodok was much better as I knew for a fact that I was not as dainty as a cupcake.

"What are you doing here, Muffin?" I teased him.

"Waiting for Cekodok. She has a lunch date with me today," he said lightly.

"Cekodok is not here. Sha is," I said defensively.

"Cekodok is here," he said sweetly.
"Where is she?"
"There...in the apple green blouse."
"Mana...? Mana....? Tak nampak pun?!" I pretended to look around.
"Ni...yang pipi macam cekodok nieh. Depan I nieh..." his grin was getting wider.

"Eeee....you tuh Muffin! Buntut tonggek!" I exclaimed.
"But you liked it," he replied.
"Bila masa I cakap I suka?"
"Ada...black and white. It was all written up," we were walking towards the parking space.
"Gosh...you were my blog reader, right? How do you know about my blog?" my face was hot. Darn, no wonder he knew everything about me!

"Don't ask, " his answer was simple.

"Tell me. Please?"
"Nope!"
"Please?"
"Definitely not."

"Arief...."
"Sha..."
"Muffin..."
"Cekodok..."

"Taknak kawan you..." I said softly.

"Taknak kawan sudah...nama kau Dolah..."
"Weeii...nama I bukan Dolah!" I was like a kid who was trying to get in a car when I got annoyed. I sat quietly while focusing on the dashboard.

"Makan mana?" he asked.
"Tak tau!"
"Cepatlah...kita nak makan mana?"
"Drive jelah!"
"Amboi...garangnya...Cekodok, comellah you macam ni. You merajuk-merajuk, pipi you makin kembung," his shoulders shook with mirth.

"You jahat!"
"Jom...Nasi Arab?"
"Pergghhh...portion banyak.Makan kambing. Lagi Cekodok la I," I said.
"You kata you suka Nasi Arab?"
"Memanglah....tapi jauh lagi...."
"Kan I janji hantar you balik Seremban and lunch sana hari ni?" he said.
"Hmmmm..."
"Cekodok, patutlah you suka tengok muffin orang. Suka makan Nasi Arab rupanya...hehehe..." he teased and teased and teased.

"Muffin...you nearly called me Apam. Patutlah you suka Nasi Arab, "I smiled nastily.

"We're a match in heaven, then, "he said while he drove away.

A lunch date? We'll see. I'll tell you more about that tomorrow folks.

orkid's cafe: nasi steak rusuk mata

Tough day. I couldn't sleep a night before that - thinking about the meeting that I was going to have with the big bosses from the principal company. My hands clenched at my sides, my forehead drenched with sweat, and my fists were as cool as ice.

Darn. I was nervous.

Then it happened. I suddenly found myself shaking hands with the bosses. Four hours later, I found myself shaking their hands again. The discussion was not bad - I was supposed to be happy with the outcome. But I felt drained. I was thinking about the black coffee on my desk when my phone rang.

"Assalamualaikum!"
"Waalaikumussalam..." I couldn't change my tone. I was mentally exhausted. That particular discussion that I had would determine my future; my mind was still digesting my decision on the Red Suzuki Swift.

"Dah habis meeting?" he asked.
"Dah..." One word.
"Sorry...I know I'm not supposed to call you at this time but..."
"But?" One word. Again.
"But....I have the feeling that you might want to talk to someone after a big meeting like that," he said carefully. He was well aware with my T&C.
"Yup," And again. Just one word.

"How was it?" he asked.
"Nice. Full of surprises," I answered. Four words this time.
"So...anything you want to spit out?"
"Hmmm...let's talk about something else, shall we? I don't want to talk about work," I quickly suggested. I could feel my own pulse when I was thinking about work. Sakit jantung!!!

"Arief..." I called him sofly. I am in love with his name. Hmmm...I have always wished for a smart guy. And the meaning of his name is Wise. Mr. Wise, said my assistant. She used to have a boyfriend named Arif before. Can I call him Mr. Wise?

"Yes?"
"Tadi...I dapat tau something," I started shakily.
"Mmmmmhhmmmm..."
"I....orang masuk meminang I...."
"Mmmmmhhmmmmm....?"
"Baru tau ni..."
"Siapa?"
"Won't give his name, but the name starts with N."
"Alright. So, you terima tak?"
"Terima."

Silent.

"Arief?"
"I'm listening," Two words now.
"I terima pinangan tuh."
"Merisik, meminang, dah bertunang?"
"Dah."
"Dah?!"
"Eh, you nieh kenapa?"
"Nothing...just terkejut. You terima?"
"Yes."
"Good."
"Thanks. Taknak congratulate?"
"Hmmm...I'm speechless. Maybe you boleh jemput I datang majlis tuh nanti?"
"Tak boleh."
"Eh, apasal tak boleh?"
"Tak boleh. You're not invited."
"Takkan....Sha, you're not serious right?"
"Yes, I am."
"I nak datang...please?" he said softly.
"Please...I taknak you datang..."
"Sha..."
"Don't do this to me, okay..." my tone was low.

He drew his breath sharply.

"Arief....why do you want to come? Why can't you just stay away?"
"I'm...." he drew a deep breath again.
"You?"
"I'm jealous with him. Whoever he is," he said.

There was silence for several minutes.

"Arief..."
"Hmmmm..."
"Why are you jealous?"
"I just can't explain."
"Fine..." then I was silent again. He was silent too.

"How can you feel that way...when the rombongan just left few minutes ago," I said softly.
"But he got you, right?"
"He got me but he just left few minutes ago..." I used my amused tone.

"Few minutes..."
"Yup...they left few minutes ago selepas sessi peminangan tuh..." I smiled when I said that.
"You mean..." he started to laugh softly.
"Yup..." I laughed too.
"Congratulations!" he said cheerfully. I could sense his relief.

"You ingat...pinangan apa?" I teased him.
"I thought you said you didn't want to talk about work," he grumbled.
"Pinangan kerja, Encik Arief," I laughed heartily.
"Mmmhmmm...."
"Gotcha!"
"You got me."

"I got you?"
"Uh-huh."
"Good...." I said with pride.
"I wish I got you," he said softly.
"That was the jealousy was all about?"
"Woooooooo...please...that confession!"

"You were jealous? Admit," I teased.
"I was. Puas hati?"
"Puas....sangat puas..."
"Gloat with it."
"Sure."

"I don't want to get you, Cik Sha. I want to have you," he smiled in his words.
"Huh...you're so confident..."
"Of course."
"Don't press your luck," I said with defiance.

"You makan apa lunch tadi?" he changed the topic.
"Apa entah...ribe eye steak dengan nasi goreng. Set kat Kopitiam," I said.
"Sedap?"
"Tak. Tapi I lapar. Habislah."
"You should not delay your lunch."
"I had a meeting."
"Nanti lain kali I cook for you, Sha? Makan sedap sikit..."
"Rib eye steak?"
"Boleh je....tapi I masak something else,"he sounded mischievous.

"Apa dia?"
"Muffin...I tau you suka muffin..." he chuckled.
I gasped.

"You ingat I tak tau you tengok muffin I malam kita jumpa kat wedding tuh?" he asked challengingly.

"I got you...." he laughed.

Adoi. Fooooooollllkssssss????

Okay. So, I guess you guys would be busy asking me what did I answer Arief when he asked me about "ambil hati". Hehe. I stammered, of course. But the stuttering was not because what he asked but how he asked me. Well, let's just say I'm the type of girl who loved to be treated with respect. One way of doing it? Of course with a smooth and nice tone. Well, he could sound like Kermit, for all I care. But he must not raise his voice or otherwise the magic would suddenly lost its power:P

"You nak amik hati I ke Arief?" I answered in the most flirtatious voice my voice box could ever produced. Well, I liked the game that he was playing with me up to the extend that I wanted to play along.

That was also, up to the extend that I have forgotten that I needed to be the girl in Big Girls Don't Cry by Fergie. If anything...well, we don't want to talk about bad stuff, don't we?

"Takkan you tak perasan-perasan lagi, Sha?" he answered back. F.L.I.R.T.A.T.I.O.U.S.L.Y.

"I'm not the perasan type," Dussshhh...one punch!
" Not that I'm aware of too, but I always knew that you're the alert type," he said.
"Alert and cautious are almost too similar, Arief," Duuuusshh...second punch! Hehe.
"Cautious if you knew you're in a great danger, Sha..." he killed me softly with his tone.
"Am I not in a great danger right now?" Dusssshhh...third punch! Hihi.
"Danger is when your body and soul are going to be bruised be the rough treatment, Sha. As far as this is concerned, you're handled with care."
"Are you saying that I'm as fragile as a glass?" Sup...sappp...suuuppp...saapppp...Cobra talk!
"I'm saying that you're as delicate as the precious orchid, dear..." Toiiinggg!!! A knock on my head.

"Arief..." G.A.T.A.L.I.C.I.O.U.L..Y called his name.
"Yes, Sha," Ooohh...this guy is a nice pain...
"You takde hati ke?"
"Mestilah ada..."
"Kalau dah ada, kenapa you nak hati I? Eeeee..tamaknya!" I said. Strike!!!
"You mean..."
"Hati, Tuhan bagi sorang satu. Kenapa nak amik hati orang pulak? Lebih baik bagi dekat mereka yang memerlukan," K.E.R.E.K.L.Y avoiding the topic.

"I bukan orang yang memerlukan ke Sha?" he asked.
"Taklah, kan you dah ada hati you?" I asked back.
"But then, Sha...bukan ke masa I nyanyi lagu Selimut Putih aritu I cakap nak barter trade? Nothing comes for free. It's time to trade now."

I could sense his smile.
I felt full and contented. The feeling when I was talking to him was like the feeling after eating a full content of Nasi Lemak Besar Punya which I bought near CM when I was about to go to work.

H.E.L.P! Do you think I can win, folks?

3. He must NOT be too anxious to call me at 5.30pm - give me some space to deal with stuff first before I can concentrate on other things.
4. Respect my office discussion at ALL times.
5. I will entertain family/office calls before I'm entertaining his.

Which means, he could call me in the morning when I got up - just to say hi. Or later when I felt like talking in the evening. But as you already knew, folks, I was unofficially staying in that "aquarium" of mine in the office. So, how about Arief's time allocation?

"You sound sleepy," he commented.
"Yup..." I yawned. I quickly covered my mouth with the back of my hand.
"Me too," he yawned too. Cute.

"Dah minum coffee?"he asked.
"Dah."
"Selalu barista minum coffee apa ye?" he teased.
"Barista minum Kopi Jantan, takpun Lasindah Cafe, Cap Kapal Api ke...Kopi yang sampai patah kaki katil tu ke..tgklah, ikut mood," I replied stupidly.
"Kerek pulak dia," he laughed.
"Serius!"
"Apasal tak minum coffee Starbucks?"
"Minum...tapi selalunya ada orang nak Employee Beverage tu. So, I bagi orang," I explained.
"Or you jenis macam I...tak boleh nak makan hasil tangan sendiri?" he prompted.
"Eeeerr...actually that was true," I smiled. He seemed to know so many things about me. Wow. That was a red alert sign, Sha.

"You enjoyed the game last night?" he asked.
"Mana you tau I tengok game last night?"
"I knew you liked football," I could sense his smile over there.
"Hmmmm...enjoy jugak. Though I was hoping that Germany was playing last night," I gave him a matter-of-fact.
"Germany dah dapat nombor tiga, sayang,"he said softly. Errrr...sayang?Wooooo...ninoninoninooooooooooo...I heard the siren.

But I ignored it.

"You sokong mana?" I asked him back.
"Team yang kalah semalam."
"Holland?"
"Yup!"
"Yikesss...peminat Arjen Robben ke?"
"Nope!"
"Then?"
"Schneider?"
"Yup!"
"Leeeerrr..."
"You sokong Spain la nieh? Yikes-yikes?"
"Nope!"
"Then?"
"I actually peminat France. Then diorang dah out, I suka Germany. Tapi...hmmm..." the sentence was unfinished.
"Then you decide nak sokong Spain sebab ada Fernando Torres kan? Liverpool?"
"Errr...yes. How do you know so many things ek?"
"Let's just say I'm good at guessing. Hehe," he laughed cheekily.

The sound of his laughter was like endearment to my ear. For some reason, I was kind of liked it but at the same time tried to refrain myself. Ninoninoooninoooooooo...the sirens got louder.

"Kalau you dapat pergi mana-mana, negara mana you nak pergi?" he asked.
"Maybe Scotland. Or Spain. Tp lately rasa nak pergi Spain," I answered truthfully.
"You mesti suka Paella kan?" he guessed.

And that was awfully true. A rice dish from Spain which made me drooled everytime I watched the tv.

"Yes."
"I knew it."
"Tell you what...why don't I make one for you?"
"You want to cook for me? Really? Paella ada saffron. Saffron mahal," I said.
"Yes...but I ada simpan sikit. I mean, a good chef will have a place for those."
"Tapi...tapi..."
"I tau....you takut I guna-gunakan you kan?"

God. This man knew everything in my mind. Geeessshhhh...

"Tak challenging la kalau nak amik hati you cara macam tuh," he said softly.
"Ish...apa you nieh..."
"Sama macam kopi patah kaki katil yang tak tentu lagi boleh buat katil patah tuh..."

I was silent.

"Boleh I amik hati you tak, Cik Sha?" he said with his nice sweet voice.

"Nak bawak ke Valencia..." he continued.

And there I was. Burning like a paella in a paellera~!!!

orkid's cafe: nasi ulam bunga orkid

"You tengah dengar lagu apa?" he asked me.

"Hanya Untukmu. Lagu yang Nana nyanyi malam semalam," I answered. My heart was still leaping with joy to hear Arief's voice on the line.

"Sedap dia nyanyi malam tadi," he commented.

"Yup. Lagu ni dahlah meaningful. Best," I tried not to sound overjoyed. Dup...dap...dup...dap...my heart was beating as if I was on a threadmill!

"You suka nyanyi jugak kan?" he probed.
"Yes. You?"
"Me too."
"Lagu apa?"
"Anything will do. You nak I nyanyi lagu apa?"
"If anything will do, apa kata you nyanyi Selimut Putih?" I challenged him. Deep down inside I was wondering whether he would passed the test.

"Bila Izrail datang memanggil...jasad terkubur di pembaringan..." his husky voice sounded so nice; even the scary song sounded beautiful. Well, I almost fainted but I was not ready to die yet. Not while Arief was calling me for the first time.

"Okay...okay...you menang," I laughed.

"You kena nyanyi untuk I pulak, someday,"he said.

"Really?"
"Really."
"Lagu apa?" I tried to mimick Sabrina in P.Ramlee's movie, Tiga Abdul.

"I heard someone likes Rossa," he suggested.
"But I don't sound like Rossa," I countered.
"Doesn't matter. You owe me," he laughed nastily.
"Alaaaaa...." I sulked. He continued laughing.

"Take your time. Sooner or later we will have to barter trade, okay?" he sounded really mean. But it was a nice mean. I started to like this mean stuff.

"Arief..." my voice sounded so gedik.
"Yup?"
"You pandai buat nasi ulam?"
"Tak pandai. Tapi tau buat. Why? You nak?"
"Tak...just asking if you have the recipe,"I told him.
"I boleh buat untuk you," he offered.
"Takpe...I boleh buat sendiri," I objected.
"Independent girl," he chuckled.

Then we talked about how difficult it was for him to find the ingredients for nasi ulam, about the nasi ulam we saw in Planet Food, the show in Astro Channel 707,and about how I prefer nasi ulam over nasi minyak.

"You pernah makan bunga durian?" I asked.
"Tak," he answered simply.
"Arwah nenek I pernah masak gulai bunga durian," I told him.
"Banyak bunga boleh makan dalam dunia nieh. Jangan makan bunga yang salah, dahlah," while he continued talking about some edible flowers including orchids.

"Bahasa sang kumbang, ye!" I teased him.
"Nak buat macam mana, sang kumbang kan pencinta wanita," that wicked laugh again.
"Perrrghhh...now I wonder why I even want to talk to you."
"Alaaaaa...cakap je. Buat belum tentu berani."
"You? Tak berani?"
"Separuh benda hanya boleh dibuat gurau but I don't really mean it,"he said. I was quiet.

"I tau you suka orkid sekarang. Sampai taknak makan orkid," he said meaningfully.
"Hmmm...rahsia dah terbongkarlah ni!"
"So, kalau I nak bagi you bunga, bunga orkidlah ye?" he asked. I was silent.
"Sha?" he called me when I did not answer.
"Mmmmmm...?"
"Do you want flowers?"
"For what?"
"Makan?"
"Ehh...taknaklah..."
"Kalau I buat nasi ulam?"
"Errrr...letak bunga?"
"Haah..." I knew he was teasing me.
"Pelik je..." I answered.
"Kalau I bagi bunga sebab nak bagi you bunga?" he prompted.

"Apa pulak. No occassion," I said.
"To celebrate the first time I'm calling you."
"Hah?"
"There will be more calls nanti.Boleh?"
"Errr...Arief...I don't know what to say...."
"Just say yes?"

I blushed. Like a crimson orchid.

What do you think, folks? Anyone wants to eat flowers today?

orkid's cafe: nasi minyak hanya untukmu

He looked at me across the table and smiled. The theme was black and pink. The ladies were wearing pink kebaya and baju kurung while the men looked so handsome with their black baju Melayu. And yummy...that person in front of me was deliciously wonderful;)

Mengenal hatimu
Hadirkan indahnya dunia
Kau bawa irama cinta di jiwa

My cousin, Joanna was walking on the aisle while his husband awaited for her with a smile. The song Hanya Untukmu from Ten2Five was heavenly romantic and it made me drowse with romantic hormones inside of me. I was wondering whether I had felt that way before. Obviously, it was too sensational because I couldn't remember feeling it.

Semua yang ku mau
Hanyalah dirimu satu
Kaulah jawaban semua doa

He winked at me. The look was seductive. I was blushing to the roots of my hair. My face pinked like the shades of my scarf. I missed this flirtatious games. This was something I didn't expect to happen in a wedding. And there he was. He was a man in black and his smile was wicked and cute.

Semua yang kurasa
Rindu dalam asa…
Didekap cinta
Hatiku untukmu…

"Sha?" he called my name. Omigod! How was I supposed to react?
"Yes?" I answered shyly.
"We met before. Tak ingat I?" he asked.
"Errr...." I staggered.
"It was another wedding. Your friend. I was the best man. Remember?"
"Mmmmhmmm..."
"The couple used Tercipta Untukku untuk background music. You kata dengan kawan you, itu lagu favourite you. Kan?"

I blushed.

"Anyway, I'm Adam," he said. He smelled like a sweet candy. And potpourri.

Ooooopppsss.

Haruskah diriku
Bertanya pada bintang-bintang
Pantaskah ku mengharap cintanya
Semua yang ku mau
Hanyalah dirimu satu…

A bowl of kerepek tempe was finished and I was still hungry. My stomach growled fiercely. I looked across the table and I saw a sweet couple on the pelamin. And uhhh....a closed dome. No food yet.

Kaulah pelita di dalam jiwa
Semua yang kurasa
Rindu dalam asa…

"I pergi dulu. By the way, please give me a call. Urmm...this is my card, " he took his card from his pocket.

The card mentioned:

Adam Lambat
Florist

Florist?! Uh-huh. While he walked away, I noticed that his knees were clicking when he was walking. Adam was a Paul type. Darn. His card was purple.

Tercipta Untukku - impressive.
Florist - sort of...impressive.
Jalan terkepit-kepit - not at all!!!!

Didekap cinta
Hatiku untukmu…
Hanyalah untukmu…

The pink and white interior made me relax. I was wishing that my voice would be as fine as Joanna's or Bunga Citra Lestari when someone asked me,

"Puan, nasi putih atau nasi minyak?"
"Errrr..." I was lost.
"Kata encik kat sana tuh, puan makan nasi putih. Tak suka nasi minyak," the waitress smiled at me.
"Siapa?" I asked her.
"Tuuu...." she showed me the man in pink Baju Melayu who was walking towards me.

"Arief?!" I shrieked.

"Hai Sha. Any problem today? Ada nasi putih khas untuk orang yang tak minat nasi minyak macam you, " he smiled.

"Thanks..." I smiled shyly at him.

"You still keep my card?" he asked me.

Then I remembered.

Zainal Arief
Chef and Caterer

"Yes...." I answered without a blush to the man in pink.

"I wish you will drop me a phone call or give me your number, "he said while handed over a pen and serviette.

I wrote down my number on the serviette and passed it to him. He smiled before he walked away. His strides were like a panther's.

This time I noticed:
Nasi putih - impressive
Chef- impressive
And on his back....a nice muffin - dang impressive!!!

Adam or Arief?
Nasi minyak or nasi putih?
Man in black or man in pink?

Hehehe. Congratulations Nana and Azri. It was a wonderful wedding.

orkid's cafe: what's your favourite rice dish?

When I looked at the Singapore Laksa I ordered just now, I was wondering whether I made the wrong choice. Kak Dee's Thai Fried Rice looked heavenly delicious from the corner of the table I was sitting at that time. Geeeshhh....I suddenly hated bean sprout!

Kak Dee? Yup, I met a blogger. Honestly, this meeting was the first one after several years of denying request from others who might want to see me in person. The reason was because of bad experience that I had last time. But Kak Dee was exceptional.

Of course, this picture was not taken by me or Kak Dee. If you want to see the picture of the fried rice she ordered and ate, you might have to go to her blog. Naturally, bloggers took pictures of the food they ate and Kak Dee was one of them. Well, I personally wished that there was something I could do to capture the moment like she did;)

She was remarkably fun person to hang out with. I could never run out of ideas with her as both of us have a mole at the corner of our mouths. Believe me, when two chatterboxes are meeting each other in one occasion, there would be no other circumstances you could find: NOISE. Hehehe.

Recently, I have been talking about Zainal Arief a lot. About how my love life has been effected due to my current interest in someone I couldn't have and things like that. I know...it was pathetic in certain ways (or perhaps every ways) but I couldn't help it, trust me.

Therefore, I'm thinking of changing my direction. I feel like writing about rice. I want to re-open Orkid's Cafe so that I'll focus more on my writing while slowing down at writing about Zainal Arief. I'm not saying that I will stop writing about him though. Don't get any illusions yet, but I'll try to make things more interesting this time;)

So, I need help from you, folks.
What is your favourite rice dish?
Nasi Goreng?
Nasi Beriyani?

Anything will do.

Just don't tell me it's Nasi Goreng Sotong. I'll be happy to eat Paul. Hehehe.

wc2010: be my pomelo, zainal arief. not felipe melo!

Dear Zainal Arief,

No...please, my love. I don't want you to be Felipe Melo from Brazil. I don't want you to be jinxed and cursed just because you got a red card in the game.

I just want you to be my bolster tonight. A bolster in a shape of pomelo, where I can rest my heavy head. A bolster in a shape of pomelo, where I can happily dream about the two of us. A bolster in a shape of pomelo, where I can smell your scent. A bolster in a shape of pomelo, where I knew that your heart is as pure as white...and I knew my heart is as pink as the mushy pomelo...

My honey bunny pomelo Zainal Arief,
Be in my dream tonight. Chase the demons in my nightmare. Make me smile. Please. Because life is just too hard today and losing you is making me mad!

p/s: my love letter to Zainal Arief. His nickname is now pomelo.

Can or not?

I'm craving for the fruit. Even Zainal Arief looks like it:P

wc2010: i'm not gonna write you a love post

Blank stares at blank pages
No easy way to say this
You mean well, but you make this hard on me
I'm not gonna write you a love song
'cause you asked for it
'cause you need one, you see

I'm not gonna write you a love song
'cause you tell me it's
Make or break in this
If you're on your way
I'm not gonna write you to stay
If all you have is leaving I'm gonna need a better
Reason to write you a love song today

I learned the hard way
That they all say things you want to hear
And my heavy heart sinks deep down under you and
Your twisted words,
Your help just hurts
You are not what I thought you were
Hello to high and dry
Convinced me to please you
Made me think that I need this too
I'm trying to let you hear me as I am

I'm not gonna write you a love song
'cause you asked for it
'cause you need one, you see
I'm not gonna write you a love song
'cause you tell me it's
Make or break in this
If you're on your way
I'm not gonna write you to stay
If all you have is leaving I'm gonna need a better
Reason to write you a love song today

Promise me that you'll leave the light on
To help me see with daylight, my guide, gone
'cause I believe there's a way you can love me
Because I say
I won't write you a love song
'cause you asked for it
'cause you need one, you see

I'm not gonna write you a love song
'cause you tell me it's make or break in this
Is that why you wanted a love song
'cause you asked for it
'cause you need one, you see
I'm not gonna write you a love song
'cause you tell me it's make or break in this
If you're on your way
I'm not gonna write you to stay
If your heart is nowhere in it
I don't want it for a minute
Babe, I'll walk the seven seas when I believe that
There's a reason to
Write you a love song today

This is the lyrics of a song called Love Song by Sarah Bareilles. Ironically, it states whatever in my heart right now. It's from the movie Made of Honour. Have you watched it? Okay, I'll give you the synopsis:

"A handsome and successful bachelor is taken aback when his dream girl asks him to be the "maid" of honor in her upcoming wedding in this romantic comedy starring Patrick Dempsey and Michelle Monaghan. Tom (Dempsey) and Hannah (Monaghan) have been best friends for years. Though all the hard times, Hannah has been the one constant in Tom's life, and the one person he knows he can always rely on. When Hannah leaves for a six-week business trip in Scotland, Tom is surprised to realize how truly lonely he is without her. Life just isn't the same without Hannah around, so the moment she returns, Tom resolves to ask for her hand in marriage. But apparently Hannah's trip wasn't all business, because upon returning home Hannah announces that she has gotten engaged to a dashing Scotsman and will soon be starting a new life overseas. She's convinced that Tom will be thrilled for her, and wants him to play a crucial role in the wedding. His spirits crushed but his love for Hannah stronger than ever before, Tom reluctantly agrees to be the "maid" of honor so that he can prove his love in no uncertain terms and convince her to call off the wedding before true happiness slips through his fingers..."

Will you steal a bride/bridegroom?
Maybe that's the reason why Posh & Becks made it a private function. And other footballers too.

* I'm not gonna write you a love post...today. Ceehhhh....who do you think you're Sha? Sarah Bareilles? Or Hannah?
